Create a new canvas to place the on the chrome text.

Use the Text tool to add on some text . Choose a font and size that is appropriate for the canvas. After writing the text rasterize the layer and select the text by holding down CTRL and clicking on the layer.

Click on channels and then click "save selection as channel". A new channel call Alpha will be created. Select the channel and apply a Gaussian blur over the image. FILTERS>BLUR>GAUSSIAN BLUR. Set the blur radius to 5 pixels and click OK.

Click back to LAYERS tab and click on the text layer. Now apply lighting effects the text. Click on FILTERS>RENDER>LIGHTING EFFECTS. Set Intensity to 35, Focus to 69, Gloss to 68, Material to -4 and have Exposure and Ambience to 0.
Next is to set the texture channel to Alpha 1 and to have the height set at Mountainous.

The position of the lighting can be played around with the achieve different effects. It will cause the text to have different shadows.

Next is to change the curves of the image. Click on IMAGE>ADJUST>CURVES. Have the curves set to the image is below.

Extra highlights and lighting effects can be added to enhance the image. The technique can also be easily appllied to different shapes for basic interfaces.
