3D Techno Sphere

3D Techno Sphere
Skill level: Basic
Programs used: Photoshop 6

Ever wondered how to create a 3D Computer generated sphere effect? Well today im going to take you through step by step in creating such an effect.

1. Create a new canvas 300x300 pixels.

2. Fill the background color in black with the PAINT BUCKET tool .

3. Make a new layer and select the ELLIPTICAL MARQUEE tool and make a circular selection by holding down the SHIFT key while dragging the selection as shown below.
4. Using the Line tool set the weight to 4 pixels . Change the foreground color to WHITE and draw vertical lines equally spaced out as shown below.
5. On the same layer repeat process 4 but this time draw horizontal lines.

6. Next go to LAYER > Duplicate Layer. Now you have 2 copies of the circular mesh. Now go to the top layer and select FILTER > DISTORT > SPHERIZE.
7. Set the amount to 100% as shown below.
8. Now go to the layer below it with the other mesh and select FILTER > DISTORT > SPHERE and set amount to -100%. This will give you the back half of the sphere.
There you have it, a 3D techno sphere.
*TIPS*

If you want to create a true 3D image make the back of the sphere a darker tone of that at the front of the sphere so that it looks like each side is further apart.

Bevel and emboss the lines to give it a more solid look and play around with the gradient and lighting effects for better contrast.
