Creating a Film Strip in Photoshop
When wanting to create a Hollywood effect the best way is to create a filmstrip border for your images. This tutorial will help you be able to make your image come alive. 1. Create a new canvas the size in which you would like to create your filmstrip. |
2. Using the rectangle tool (Fig.1.0) in the tool bar, create a rectangle
to the size that your filmstrip will be. Make sure you make new layer
when you make your rectangle shape. Remember to have your foreground color
set to black. For those people that are using Photoshop version.6 and
under you can use the rectangular marquee tool. |

3. Make a new layer, and then you can start the next step. Using the rectangle tool to create a small square. Then duplicate the layer as many times as you require, this all depends on the how many hole you want at the top of your film. Make sure this time you have the foreground color set to white. Remember to hold down shift while dragging out the rectangle tool, so that the shape created is to perfect proportion.

4. When all the holes have been created you can merge the layers, which consist of those holes together (Fig.3.0), so it will allow you to save time.

| Then duplicate the layer that you have merged together. Move the duplicated layer down to the bottom then your filmstrip starts to take shape. (Fig.4.0) | Fig.4.0![]() |
5. Create a new layer then using the rectangle tool create a square, duplicate this layer as many times as needed. Then once you have made those squares, left mouse click on the layer holding down on the [Ctrl] key. Copy an image that you would want to paste in and then press [Ctrl] V on the keyboard, this pastes the image in the selection. You would be able to move the image around in the selection by using just your mouse. |

| 6. Once your film is created you can leave it the way it is or you can put a little wave in it, so it creates a 3D look to it. | |
7. Click on the filter menu and then choose Distort, then click on Wave. Before doing this effect you must make sure that you have linked the layer mask with the layer. Then merge the layers together, but do not merge the background layer with the layers. |

| Once the layers have been merged you will be left with two layers, the background layer and the layer with the film in it. |

| 8. In the wave box set the (Number of Generators to 20), (Amplitude 1 and 3), (Wave Length to min 158, max 158), and set the vertical scale to 100%. Once that is done Double click the layer and add a drop shadow of 3 and bevel of 3. | |
